Coves House EstateWeardale Outdoor is based on a small family Estate in Weardale. The Estate spreads from the low pastures of the Dale, up onto the fell and adjoins the Weardale Way. There are two main footpaths that run across the Estate which link the two farms.
![]() The Estate has a great variety of terrain and woodland in addition to the quarries and becks. The entire Estate is under a Countryside Stewardship Scheme which supports the restoration of the many drystone walls. Last year the Estate planted over 1,000 trees to increase the diversity and to develop the Pheasant Shooting. ![]() Coves House is the principal house on the Estate and it dates back to the 14th Century. The current owners are slowly restoring the House and grounds with hope to restore some of the charm of this Grade II* Listed property. The second house on the Estate is also Listed and offers a beautiful setting for the main farming enterprise. In addition to this, there are a few other redundant cottages on the Estate that the current owners hope to restore for Holiday Lets in the next few years. The Estate is tenanted to one family who run a large flock of sheep and a suckler herd. In addition to the livestock, the Estate boasts a diverse wild population of migrant and non-migrant birds. Visitors may also be lucky enough to see the herd of wild Roe Deer. The Estate produces a large amount of wild food, including Wild Garlic, Wild Mushrooms, Blackberries, Sloes and Rabbits. All of these are sold locally to The Mill Race Restaurant in Wolsingham. The Estate also provides Pheasants and other homegrown produce to the Restaurant. If you wish to become involved on the Estate please do not hesitate to call the office. There are always things to be done on an Estate and it is a great way to enjoy the outdoors.
